The extreme movements of An Awakening (2002) have a pronounced meditative character. In the central movement, which is slightly more upbeat, the low instrument plays a stubborn bass on which a melodic theme is grafted in a triple canon. The bass itself is then varied. The gradual disappearance of the various elements brings the movement to a close.
Two CD versions are available, one for clarinet, bass clarinet and piano (Ronald Van Spaendonck, Jean-Marc Fessard and Eliane Reyes, label Dux 0531), the other for violin, cello and harp (Erez Ofer, Karolina Maziarz, Rachel Talitman, label Harp&Co 5050-28).
