Let’s Dance

piano

This work was composed in 2010. It is at first a piece written for dance, without specific argument. However, it reminds in its construction to the 17th century dances constructed on variated rhythms and tempos.

Written for solo piano, the partition introduces, after a prelude, dances such as samba, march, hip hop or slow waltz. They are followed by an ad libitum part, and finally a dark and slow march.

This last dance drives the audience to the existential contemplation of the finitude of the human condition, far from the distraction of this early 21 century. It is a cathartic moment where music and dance illustrate the famous sentence of André Malraux: “One of the answers to death is Art.”
