Chronographie XI

2 pianos
The writing of Chronographie XI (2018) is extremely virtuosic, both in terms of piano technique and the way the two partners set each other up. The second piano launches an ostinato on which the unifying 5-note motif (C, E, B, G, A) common to all the Chronographies is gradually built up. Several sudden modulations change the discourse, leading to a calmer, more meditative second part, but this is only a brief respite as the elements of the first part return, developed differently. A short interlude reminiscent of a jazz improvisation precedes the short but dazzling conclusion based on the motifs from the beginning.
The world premiere by the two dedicatees, Jean-Baptiste Fonlupt and Fabian Jardon, took place on 14 October 2024 at the IMEP concert hall (Namur, Belgium).
