Composed in 2008 and revised in 2015, Le Théorème d’incomplétude (The Incompleteness Theorem) is scored for a standard brass ensemble: four trumpets, horn, three trombones and tuba.
The work opens with a striking fanfare from the trumpets, soon joined by the horn and trombones, leading to a solemn chorale whose harmonic weight and intensity build progressively. This initial section, steeped in gravity and grandeur, gradually gives way to a livelier, more rhythmically animated passage, in which earlier motifs are reworked and enriched by newly introduced material.
The piece concludes in a spirit of uninhibited celebration, marked by brilliant writing and a palpable sense of collective exultation.
While the title nods to the celebrated logical paradoxes of Kurt Gödel, the music remains deeply human in character: expressive, expansive, and resolutely affirmative.
