Clapuyt, Edwin

Edwin Clapuyt was born in Etterbeek (Brussels, Belgium) in December 1965.

His passion for music begun when he was still young. He studied at the Music Academy of Etterbeek and at the Music Academy of Brussels. He entered the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles in 1983, after his secondary school. He got various First Prices, among which the First Price of Piano, emphasized by the Price Galliot and the Price Lemike-Frison, the First Price of Fugue and the First Price of Music History.
After having been appointed as teacher in three music academies, Edwin Clapuyt was appointed as director of the Music Academy of Evere in 1991. He fulfilled this function until 2004.
Since 1992, his enthusiastic lectures at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles have been leading a lot of students to learn the basic mechanisms of composition through the accurate analysis of well-known composers. The Price Mathilde de la Hault, from the Commission of Patrimony of Conservatoire, awarded his teaching qualities and his zeal in June 2002. From January 2004 to January 2008, Edwin Clapuyt was Vice-director of the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. Meanwhile, since 2002, he has been giving the new course of computer-assisted music at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.
Aesthetically, he was influenced by counterpoint, repetitive music, post modernism and new consonant music. His goal, in his compositions, is to establish emotion and communication with the public.
