Le Principe d’incertitude

for three horns, three trumpets, three trombones and three percussion players

A major and commanding work, Le principe d’incertitude (The Uncertainty Principle) explores the dynamic relationship—at times collaborative, at others combative—between the brass ensemble and percussion. From its opening bars, the piece showcases the full expressive and technical range of the brass instruments: dazzling virtuosity, monumental sonorities, lyrical lines, rhythmic precision, and intricate dialogues between the various sections.

The three percussionists play an equally vital role, contributing a wealth of timbral variety. At times they support and mirror the brass; at others, they challenge them in moments of tension and conflict. This interplay lends the work a theatrical intensity and textural richness, underpinned by a rigorously structured formal design.

The result is a powerful and sonically striking composition that pushes the boundaries of ensemble writing, both in terms of instrumental colour and architectural clarity.

Le principe d’incertitude is available in PDF format only, with all instrumental parts included in a single digital file. No printed edition is currently offered.
