Origami

two pianos four hands or four pianos

Origami (2016) is a single-movement work structured in three parts (ABA′), in which short melodic and rhythmic cells gradually accumulate, layer upon layer, complementing and superimposing one another. This process generates a mounting tension that ultimately reveals the full form of the piece—much like the successive foldings of an origami figure, where simplicity gives way to intricacy.

The first section (A) is characterised by a strongly rhythmic and obsessive energy. In contrast, the central section (B) unfolds in a more poetic, lyrical atmosphere that intensifies steadily, becoming increasingly dramatic. The final section (A′) revisits and intertwines the thematic material of both A and B, bringing the work to a conclusion that is both coherent and multifaceted.
