Mosaïque

violoncello

This tonal work was created in Uccle by Guy Fallot in 1961.

The composer wrote : Here, we must interpret the term mosaic in the biblical sense, that is to say, from Moses. Indeed, the three small pieces included here were written based on themes taken from the Jewish folklore of different countries.
The first is an improvisation on a Jewish theme from Germany. It is an adagio played with emotion by the cello, the sound of which is admirably suited to this melancholy melody.

The second, Ismakh Moshe, based on a Jewish theme from Spain, is a ritual invocation of Moses, given a rhapsodic treatment. As for the third, Ana Pana Dodech, or Ana’s Dance, it is based on a popular Jewish theme from Poland. It is called Hora and is still danced today in some traditional festivals.
