During 2008-2009, Michel Lysight was invited as a “composer in residence” at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory of the 14th arrondissement of Paris, and it is in this context that Unsquare Quartet (2008) was written. Structurally, it is a one-movement piece, but articulated in various parts that follow one another without interruption.
Each section has its own character, two of them being particularly rhythmic while the others deploy a rich, melodic and expressive counterpoint. A certain minimalism and ostinato writing mark the entire work.
