Chronographie VIII (2004) belongs to a series of pieces which have in common an identical melodic-harmonic material (G, B, F sharp, D, E).
Here, this material is not treated permanently, but in a punctual manner, sometimes appearing in places where one least expects it. This Chronographie alternates meditative moods in which the cello or viola expresses itself fully on the melodic level while the piano supports it harmonically, with other more virtuoso or rhythmic parts such as the central variations.
It is dedicated to the cellist Marie Hallynck and the pianist Muhiddin Durruoglü who gave the world premiere in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels on 3rd May 2006.
