violin and piano
Chronographie IV (1996) belongs to a series of pieces (there are currently twelve “Chronographies” for various formations) having as a common point an identical melodic-harmonic material (G, B, F sharp, D, E). This material is treated here first of all as a sound carpet on which the very lyrical melody of the violin rises. It will then be used in very different ways, sometimes coming to the foreground, then becoming only a secondary element while the main elements are built on it. The melody played in harmonics on the violin gives a dreamlike atmosphere at the end, while the piano slowly dissolves the basic material.
Damien Pardoen (violin) and Stéphane De May (piano) have recorded this work on CD (label Fibonacci production 002).
