Promethium (2023), inspired by a concert given by Duo Entre-Nous, forms part of a series of compositions each evoking a particular metal (Cobalt, Tin, Titanium, Platinum, Palladium). This work bears all the hallmarks of the composer’s idiom: the progressive development of motifs, intricate rhythmic construction, wide leaps in register creating the illusion of more than two instrumentalists conversing, heightened melodic expressiveness, abrupt modulations, and an evolving minimalist style.
The world premiere was given by Duo Entre-Nous — Jackie Glazier (clarinet) and Don-Paul Kahl (saxophone) — on 21 January 2024 at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania (USA).
