STÉPHANE DE MAY

Stéphane De May is a Belgian pianist who studied with Aquiles Delle-Vigne in whose class he obtained the higher diploma piano at the " Ecole Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot " with unanimity and the congratulations of the jury (Paris 1991) and further the concertist diploma (1993) and a "master’ at the conservatory of Rotterdam(2002).

He also studied contemporary music with Michel Lysight and obtained the higher diploma in solfege in the latter’s class at the Brussels Royal Conservatory. He also has a Teacher’s degree in music pedagogy (IMEP 1995) and was finalist in three major international competitions : the " World piano competition " in 1992 (Cincinnati, USA), the " Zuidhollandskamermuziekconcours " in 1993 (Holland) and the " International music competition of Vienna " in 2000 (Austria). He obtained the " J.& W. PELEMANS Price " in 2003.

He further perfects himself with Abdel Rahman El Bacha, Tatiana Evdokimova, Tjitte Weber and Guy Van Waas in which class he obtains the higher diploma chamber music with the highest honours and the congratulations of the jury. He regularly performs in Belgium and abroad (USA, Italy, Austria, the Netherland, Spain, Greece,...) in recitals, chamber ensembles and with symphonic orchestras.

The national and international press has recurrently applauded both his public performances and his CD recordinds :’Oréades (works by Michel Lysight), the recital De May-Pardoens (post modern compositions for violon and piano with violonist Damien Pardoen), " Sonatas for flute and piano by César Franck and Guillaume Lekeu " (together with flutist Marc Grauwels).

He is a piano teacher at the academy of Brussels-City and at the Conservatory of Leuven, whilst holding an assistant professorship at the Royal Conservatory of Liège and a guest professorship at the Conservatory of Rotterdam.
