Jean-Marie Simonis was born in 1931 in Mol (Belgium) and studied composition
and orchestration with Marcel Quinet.
Simonis is a member of the Belgian Académie Royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts,
he was professor of harmony at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and
taught harmony, counterpoint and fugue at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth.
Althrough very classical in form - and independant from many of the
New Consonant trends - his works are influenced by a need for equilibrum and other cultures.
Five pieces by contemporary Belgian composers which illustrate a real or imaginary city. The aim is to offer works that are musically interesting yet accessible to medium or advanced levels.
