Professor of conducting at the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels, Director
of the Academy of Music in Brussels, a conductor who tours regularly, Robert
Janssens is an extremely eclectic and very fertile composer : from Yerma,
a ballet premiered by the Ballet de Wallonie and performed at the Porte
St Martin in Paris, and as well as in Marseille and Cuba, to the Messe des
Artistes (called the St François) premiered at Brussels and then
at the Avignon Festival, his compositions include concerti, chamber works,
symphonies and cantatas for choir, soloists and orchestra...
Narcisse is a cycle of five songs for soprano or baritone, the music being
inspired by texts which are extracts from a superb collection of poems by
the Belgian writer Friederika Blanka. Narcisse also exists in an orchestral
version, and was awarded with the Irene Fuerison Prize of the Belgian Academy.
Imposed work at the 1991 Crédit Communal Music Competition. Composed of a highly lyrical and melodious movement followed by a lively and vivid part, punctuated by a brilliant finale. [ordering : precise the instrument!]
Five pieces by contemporary Belgian composers which illustrate a real or imaginary city. The aim is to offer works that are musically interesting yet accessible to medium or advanced levels.
Twelve short concerts (for 1 or 2 voices) to be performed in classes for general music training as well as by individual students in instrument classes, as the collection contains several transcriptions for each piece. The work also enhances the collaboration between instrument and group music teachers through the use of a common manual.
