Sérgio de Vasconcellos-Corrêa

Sérgio de Vasconcellos-Corrêa was born in 1934 in São Paulo, where he initiated in 1946 his studies of piano having, however, abandoned the promising career of concertist in order to dedicate himself to conduct and composition.

Another very important aspect of his activities it’s the reform and modernization of the musical teaching at schools of several levels including importantant universities in São Paulo, such as Unicamp and Unesp where he teaches composition and harmony.

This Ponteios series, one of purer pieces of brazilian music is meant by remarkable brazilianism, distinction and softness of its writing, where the composer pretends a work like Chopin with its 24 preludes.

Sergio wrote many pieces for piano like Contrastes (1968), 3 Studies for piano about Luiz Gonzaga songs. Other important works should be mentioned, such as Concertino for Piano and Orchestra (1967); the Concertante for percussion, orchestra and tape; Trio for piano, violin and celo, awarded by APCA as the best Chamber Piece performed in 1973.
