Piotr Lachert on hunger strike!

Piotr Lachert, composer, President of PORTO Association hasn’t eaten for EIGHT DAYS so far, in the hope to get a meeting with the main Abruzzo (Italy) authorities.
Piotr Lachert doesn’t demand a positive answer but just asks for a meeting in which both the President of the Abruzzo Region and of the Province of Pescara and the mayor of the Town of Pescara would approve or refuse their support to the Mediterranean Artistic Competition 2009 plan.
To get UE financial support, the project has gathered 22 Mediterranean Countries – from Pakistan to Afghanistan, from Greece to Arabia and so on – in a net made up of almost 2000 artists, who would come to Italy some months before the Mediterranean Sport Competition 2009. These Countries are waiting for concrete steps, which don’t occur for the lack of money. This money (the 60% of the whole budget) could be given from the UE if only the Abruzzo authorities cared and met up together, in order to stir the still waters and submit the funds application to UE. The PORTO Association has been waiting for an answer from the authorities for two years so far, and last year lost the opportunity to ask for 900.000 euros to the UE.
That’s why President Piotr Lachert went on hunger strike last Monday, 25th June. He hopes to be heard from the authorities and to awaken the European public opinion to the indifference of Country representatives to artistic and cultural events.
We urge Mr. Ottaviano Del Turco (President of the Regio Abruzzo), Mr. Luciano D'Alfonso (Mayor of Common of Pescara) and Mr. Pino De Dominicis (President of the Province of Pescara) to unlock this dangerous situation by meeting the delegates of Porto autorità artistica.
Time is now for action.
